by Mike Stewart
Marquette Golden Eagles looks to remain one step ahead in a crowded race for second in the Big East as six teams, including Cincinnati Bearcats, are within one game of one other in the loss column. The Golden Eagles, who have won eight of their last nine, rank second in the league in scoring and first in assists. The Bearcats, meanwhile, are third in the conference in scoring defense. Both teams take excellent care of the ball: Cincinnati and Marquette are second and third in the Big East, respectively, in turnover margin.

The Golden Eagles have opened as 6.5-point favorites on SBG Global Sportsbook’s Live NCAA Basketball Odds.
Cincinnati Bearcats (17-7): The Bearcats beat struggling DePaul and St. John's last week to snap a three-game losing streak. Cincinnati has been led by a defense that has allowed just 60.1 ppg, but its uneven offense has been a bit too reliant on the outside shot, firing up a league-high 516 3-point shots this season. Those shots have been falling on most nights — Cincinnati shoots 36.2 percent from long range — but the team is often doomed when they aren't. The Bearcats have scored 55 or fewer points in five of their seven losses.
Marquette Golden Eagles (20-5): The Golden Eagles have been getting by despite knee injuries to their top two centers. Senior starter Chris Otule is out for the year, and sophomore Davante Gardner remains doubtful after missing the last three games. Marquette remains potent offensively, led by the outside-inside combo of SG Darius Johnson-Odom (18.2 ppg) and senior F Jae Crowder (16.0 ppg, 7.6 rpg, 2.3 spg). Marquette is extremely disciplined for an up-tempo club, ranking near the top of the Big East in turnover margin (plus-4.0) and assist-to-turnover ratio (1.3) while dishing out a league-high 17.4 assists.
1. Cincinnati leads the all-time series 25-18, including a 67-60 victory in Milwaukee on March 2 last year.
2. The road team has won three of the last four meetings, with the Golden Eagles' 84-50 home win in 2009 the lone exception. The Bearcats are 3-1 in their last four games at Marquette.
3. Saturday's game coincides with the celebration of National Marquette Day, with all fans in attendance encouraged to wear gold. The contest is expected to sell out.
